Individual Counseling20131018-095925

An individual session
is a time you and I can spend together to explore and work through any struggles you may be facing. I find that we are all doing the best we can with what we have, and yet somehow that doesn’t always feel like enough for us. We often cope with current life circumstances with skills we learned in the past. Unfortunately, what worked when we were younger may no longer prove useful for us today. My job is to help you see yourself in a new light- one that is present, accepting, and embracing you. A you that can deal with what’s going on, make healthy choices, and become a more natural self: balanced, happy, and uniquely you!

My education and experience allows me to work with many populations and issues. I have a special interest in my private practice in working with teen and young adult women who are transitioning into adulthood. I find it rewarding to work with young men and adult women, as well, depending on their need.  My specialties with issues include: Trauma, Depression, Self-Esteem, Anxiety, Addictions, LGBT, Emotion Regulation Issues, Impulse Control Issues, Relationship Issues, and more.

Family Counseling

Becoming a parent is one of the most rewarding and difficult jobs we take on. We enter into creating a family with the best intention, to do best by our kids. It isn’t long before we realize that we’re imperfect people, and thus our parenting is imperfect. Sometimes we feel disconnected from our kids, wonder why punishments aren’t working, or are walking around armed with mom or dad guilt. I utilize parenting methods based on leading research that takes us back to what parenting is about: raising good people. We do this through coaching, connecting, empathizing, and setting consistent boundaries.

In my practice I focus on working with parents who are struggling with their kids, as well as families who are wanting to feel more connected. Let’s face it, we live in a disconnected world. Family therapy can help bridge the gaps in communication, find ways of spending quality time together, and increase feelings of connection. I especially enjoy helping families blend together (step parents, half siblings, etc).

Perhaps your family is just you and your partner (maybe a dog or cat too?). Sometimes our problems don’t seem to pop up until we’re faced with sharing our life with someone else. Have you been feeling disconnected, having the same fight over and over, or are worried your relationship is beyond saving? It is always possible to nourish your relationship, build middle ground, and fall more in love with your partner. I approach couples counseling with a clear goal in mind: using positivity to increase healthy communication and help couples turn toward one another. My approach is influenced by the research done at the Gottman Institute, as well as mindfulness practices in creating a closer connection.

If you’re looking to create a space for you and your partner that is calm, open, and uplifting- let’s meet.

At times, I will provide group counseling. When those are happening, more information will be posted here.
